Nikki Giovanni
Can I lay down
in the pages of your
poetry book
and you cover me with
Your words?Queen,
would you grant me the
freedom to roam
the beauty of
your mind, to
learn how to write
like you, can I be your
metaphors?Can I curl my
soul around your
curls, swing on the
fingers of the hand
that you write on?My dear queen,
I could read you for
hours on end…*throws panties at Nikki Giovanni*
We, Black people, cannot begin to dismantle White Supremacist philosophies if we don't dismantle colorist philosophies from within our own community. This means that people have to get uncomfortable. This means that feelings have to be hurt and toes, crushed on. We have to let out this anger. We have to talk. Because we're all hurting, one way or another, and refusing to talk about this battle between Field Niggers and House Niggers isn't doing anything good for us. We want to hide under "we all Black!" rhetoric so much, but never want to say, "yes, we're all Black, but not all Black in the same way." Let's talk. Let's mobilize.
